| P79 Arena League Team looking smart in their new Swimzi tops, sponsored by Marshall Mercedes-Benz |
The National Arena Swimming League consists of 400 teams made up of 7 regions, (East Midlands, London, North East, North West, South, Western and West Midlands) consisting of 3 to 4 separate divisions (Premier Division, Division 1, Division 2, Division 3) who each participate in 3 rounds, one in October, November and December, with the Grand Finals taking place in April. Teams will compete the following year in the relevant league dependant on their results the previous year. Any new teams will always start in the lowest Division in their Region, and move depending on their results.
The first round took place last night; Pioneer 79 have been involved in the League for over 15 years, and are currently competing in the 'Premier Division' of the North West Arena League, along with 15 other top North West teams. With 2 separate venues and draws on offer, we were drawn to compete at Macclesfield along with teams from Satellite, Southport, Isle of Man, Preston, Stockport Metro, Cockermouth and Winsford. The other 8 teams, Salford, Blackpool, Horwich, Liverpool, Barrow, Warrington, Trafford and Prescot were drawn to compete in Blackpool.
With some extremely close racing throughout the evening, at the half way point, the points were:

Pioneer swimmers took the full 8 points with Katie Hale winning the girls 9-11 years 50m Backstroke in fine form, and Lily-Grace Duckworth pulling a whopping 1.02 out of the bag in the girls 13&Under 100m Freestyle. There were also some nailbiting races, with many swimmers taking 2nd and 3rd places in their events.
